This is a further update on the recent cybersecurity incident affecting Instructure, the company that provides Canvas, the online learning platform we use across the University.
Instructure has informed MTU that it is one of the institutions affected by this global cybersecurity incident. The relevant data is described as appearing to include “personal information”. Further information is available on Instructure’s public status page: https://status.instructure.com/
Canvas remains safe to use. However, you should be on heightened alert to possible scam emails and be vigilant when opening links or attachments. MTU IT will be sending out a more detailed advisory in relation to this.
Staff from across MTU including IT Services, MTU’s digital learning teams, and MTU's Data Protection Office are actively working to assess the full implications of the incident and ongoing updates from Instructure. MTU is also in contact with Instructure to identify any potential impact on the MTU community. The Data Protection Commission has also been updated.
