MTU Cork campuses were the target of a cyber-attack. The incident resulted in the encryption of certain MTU systems for the purpose of demanding a ransom. No ransom was paid.
MTU’s back-up systems were preserved and this, in combination with further steps to protect the integrity of our systems, facilitated a return to study and work relatively quickly in the circumstances.
How the attack happened
- Ransomware was used to encrypt files and prevent the University’s access to these files.
